Former child actress Daveigh Chase, best remembered for her terrifying performance as Samara Morgan in the horror hit The Ring and for voicing the beloved character Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, has died at the age of 35.
According to her boyfriend Roy Hernandez, Chase succumbed to complications from meningitis and serious blood infections that led to sepsis and organ failure. She had been hospitalized earlier in June due to malnutrition.
Born in 1990, Chase rose to fame as a young talent with notable roles in films including Donnie Darko, the English dub of Spirited Away, and The Ring — the latter earning her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. Her voice work in Lilo & Stitch and its related series left a lasting impression on a generation of audiences.
In recent years, she faced significant personal challenges, including family issues and difficulties finding stability. Hernandez had set up a GoFundMe campaign to support her during her final days, describing her as a bright light in his life who deserved peace and comfort.
Her passing has saddened fans worldwide who grew up watching her iconic performances.
